If we are called to be humble, how can we really do that? You can't possibly think or say your humble and be humble at the same time. What is humility?
The problem with humility is that we don't really understand Truth and unity. The truth is that no one is humble but some are humbled by the Truth. You can't possibly know the Truth and not be humbled. The more reaveled the more humble you become. We will get back to that in a moment. The other problem is self. It is hard to understand humilty until we understand self. To be humble I have to esteem others as better than myself. Wouldn't that mean I have a low self-esteem? Yes it would. Do you know what the definition for self-esteem is?
Self-esteem n. Pride in oneself.
That is the actual definition of self-esteem. Guess what is the opposite of humility? Pride in oneself! You can't truly have unity when there is pride in oneself. The humble are of one mind putting others first. Having low or better yet no self-esteem does not mean your not confident, joyfull, positive or any of those things. My confidence is in the Lord, not in myself. My esteem is in the Lord. He is everything. The Truth will humble you. You don't have to do a thing.
1 Peter 5:5 says that:
"God resist the proud
but gives grace to the humble."
So now if I say be humble, is that even possible? Let me tell you this. The first step of humility is knowing and admitting that your proud. Admitting everyday without hessitation that you are the proudest person on the planet, because you are. That is the truth and the truth will make you humble. I love God with all my heart yet I am still to proud to serve Him fully. I am still to proud to fully give in to His will. I am so proud that I often catch myself wanting to take credit for God's own Word. Yet He gives me grace by revealing this truth to me. Thank You God for Your awsome Truth! Therefore humility is not an act, but a realization of the Truth that transforms you. You cannot become humble on your own, but only humbled by the Truth.
