Congratulations to our 3 brave fighters who competed in the R.I.E. MMA event last weekend. I must say that after the fights I am sure that indeed the Respect Is Earned promotion fit perfectly for our fighters because respect was earned. Not only did they show the fans what they wanted and earn their respect but as always I earn more and more respect for our fighters each and every time they compete.
Cole Presley was the first of Team Clinch to step in the cage. Right off the bat Cole knocks down his opponent. Ending up in top guard his opponent landed a few hard elbows to the top of Cole's head. Cole advances his position and works for an arm bar but his opponent escapes and gets back to his feet. Once Cole worked back to his feet he landed a nice high kick putting his opponent down again. As his opponent gets back to his feet, Cole Clinches from behind and sinks in a rear naked choke while up against the fence.
Our 2nd fighter to enter the cage was Paul Mann. Although Pauls fighter didn't make wieght Paul still agreed to fight. Paul shows dominance on his feet as he lands combo after combo forcing his opponent to pressure the clinch. On the ground Paul continues to show his well rounded game as he dominates his opponent on the ground by mounting him and eventually getting a back mount where he tried to finish with the rear naked choke which was unable to complete. Going into round 2 Paul was beginning to show some fatigue but still managed to push his opponent and control the half of the round. Paul slowly began to lose steam and his opponent eventually took the top position and began to land blows to the head when Mario Yamasaki was forced to stop the fight. I have said it before and I will say it again. It is like watching BJ Penn fight. He goes in there and destroys his opponents with his skill but eventually hits a brick wall. The only difference is that Paul trains very hard. We will figure out what is going on and get Paul the victories he deserves.
Our third fighter of the night, Jacob Kirwan, takes the cage against Kirk Pellegrino Brown Belt Kevin Roddy. Right at the beginning of the match they both move to the center of the cage and as they clash, Roddy hits mat. Jacob rushes him and sinks in a guillotine as Kevin was working back to his feet. Now Jacob sits back with his guillotine and it looks like the end. Suddenlly Kevins head slips out as he lands a few non-threatening blows on Jacob. Once again Jacob slips in a guillotine and this time it is for the finish as he submits the Pellegrino fighter a little over a minute in the first round.
