Jacob Does It Again!
Jacob Kirwan made a great appearance for his 2nd pro MMA fight last night, July 12th at the Tropicana hotel in Atlantic City, NJ.. All though I wasn't able to make it to NJ with him I was able to watch the fight live on the Internet. Battle Cage Extreme put on a good event and I was pumped to see Jacob walking down the fighter's runway representing team Clinch Academy. Daniel Tavares, his opponent walked in sporting his gi, his black belt and the Brazilian flag. He looked like a game opponent. Part of the game plan for Jacob was to try to keep it on the feet and make Tavares work for the take downs and frustrate him a little but as soon as round 1 began Jacob takes the shot and is stuck in a guillotine. Eventually he works his way out and lands some good hits on Tavares and controls most of round 1. The round seemed to go back and forth with Jacob getting the take downs and Tavares aggressively working submissions. In the beginning of round 2 Jacob lands a nice right hook and Tavares drops to the mat as Jacob gets on top guard. Mid way through the round Tavares sunk in a deep triangle arm bar which had me screaming at my computer screen but Jacob stayed composed and barely slipped his way out as he sticks Tavares with a few more shots. Round 3 Jacob comes out more on his toes looking to keep the fight up and Tavares takes the shot while Jacob slips in a tight guillotine and finishes the fight by submission early in round 3! Jake's brother Joe, Paul Mann and Joey Hughs were all in his corner. I think his new nickname may be the "Black Belt Killer" seeing how he has defeated 4 BJJ black belts in the last 4 weeks! One at mission submission, 2 at grapplers quest and one more last night in Battle Cage Extreme! Way to go Jacob!!!
