Bruce Lee was one of the most famous martial artist ever. He changed the way people viewed martial arts. The Gracie Family did the same thing. Ever since UFC 1 The world view of Martial Arts has been flipped upside down. One thing that always stood out to me about Bruce Lee was that he stopped teaching his classes at one point and only taught private lessons. He said that He couldn't teach people how to fight but could only show them to use what was all ready there. To Bruce martial arts was a very personal thing. It varies from person to person. One thing that people like Helio Gracie and Bruce Lee have in common is that they both understood that martial arts is truly an art. Art is not the same for any one. It is an expression of yourself. Whether it be through a paint brush, an instrument or an arm bar, art is art. Any artist needs to learn how to properly stroke a brush, play their instrument or how to do a proper arm bar but once this is in place they can paint anything on that canvas, play many beautifull compositions or personalize and express themselves through martial arts. Remember, the greatest martial arts legends are the ones who expressed themselves through it.
